Tian Fu Tea Room Sparkling Imperial High Tea with Bird’s Nest!

tianfutearoom2014

For this festive season, Tian Fu Tea Room at the PARKROYAL Hotel’s Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurants will feature a Sparkling Imperial High Tea set priced elegantly at $38.80++ per person. Available from now till 31st January 2015, the set will present 9 different dim sum items paired with two servings of Chinese tea and topped off with a glass of sparkling wine. A selection of dim sum items will be crafted with Long Ming Xuan Bird’s Nest which is specially customized for the restaurant. The bird’s nest was selected for its savoury, egg like fragrance, and its smooth texture that under the creative hands of Master Dim Sum Chefs Lu Shi Qian and Peng Yi Chun will make its way into the menu into items such as the Steamed Bird’s Nest Prawn Dumpling and the Steamed Crystal Bird’s Nest and Seafood Dumpling.

I visited the Tian Fu Tea Room located at the PARKROYAL on Beach Road hotel. Elegantly known for its glossy yet homely interior, this is one location that seems extremely comfortable for some afternoon high tea and dim sum with friends. Under the set menu, each diner will receive a single portion of each dim sum item – ensuring that no one gets to fight over the last piece in an epic chopstick battle.

Start off the meal with a serving of sparkling Torresella Prosecco and a serving of premium Chinese tea brew. After which, tuck in to a portion of Steamed Dumpling with Minced Chicken and Bird’s Nest. I adored the dumpling skin for its meticulous design, light texture, only to reveal a robust meaty interior topped with crisp bird’s nest accentuated by the slightly salty flying fish roe. Excellent.

Xiao Long Bao with Bird’s Nest- An excellent serving with a rich, flavourful interior. Though I couldn’t really tell if there was supposed to be bird’s nest inside. Regardless, still a very good serving of xiao long bao.

My favourite savoury item for the day has to go to the Pan Fried Crab Meat Puff. Wrapped with a thin dumpling skin, each piece is generously stuffed crab meat, mushroom and an assortment of other goodies. The intermix of savoury, sea sweet and umami flavours along with a slightly crisp skin was perfect. And receiving only one serving of this per diner will surely ensure you craving for more.

Boiled Minced Meat Dumpling with Chinese Cabbage. Easily said, warm and hearty. I particularly enjoyed the stock as it was a nice departure from the heavier dim sums earlier.

Each day the set is offered, the main staple will vary. For the Saturday, we were served up the Sichuan Noodle with Onion Sauce. The noodles are elegantly bouncy and soft, with a firm bite that was harmoniously paired with a robust, slightly oily onion sauce that was both fragrant and a little salty to bring out the flavour in the dish. I enjoyed this very much.

Yunnan Dian Hong tea – to wash everything down.

For dessert, we had the Boiled Pear with Bird’s Nest. A simple yet exquisitely crafted dish, it was almost a little jewel in a bowl. The single wolfberry perched atop a bed of bird’s nest added all the more to the sophistication. Visual appeal aside, the flavours were extremely satisfying. I enjoyed the sweet, hot broth that goes nicely with the crisp boiled pear. I would come back to the restaurant just for this.

And of course, how could you visit Si Chuan Dou Hua without having a serving of their signature Si Chuan Dou Hua Beancurd with Wolfberries. This was in addition to the set menu, but definitely an excellent ending to the meal.

In overall, the Sparkling Imperial High Tea set will appeal to guests looking for something a little different apart from all the Roasted Turkey and Tarts that will be awashed in almost every major restaurant this festive season. While it will not cater to guests who are looking for a extensive dim sum satisfaction, it is great for those who are looking for something a little exquisite like Bird’s Nest and a way to relish the afternoon heat from the cooling indoors. And as a special promotion for UOB Cardmembers, one dines free with three accompanying adults.

Thank you Tian Fu Tea Room for the invitation.
