Reign in the Year of the Horse at Peach Blossoms!

Peach-Blossoms-CNY-2014

The Lunar New Year is just a week away! As I’m having my first lunar new year overseas, us Singaporean students are thinking of ways to celebrate the festivities while on campus.  For those in Singapore, tuck in to the luxury of visiting the Peach Blossoms at the Marina Mandarin for some festive New Year delights. Enjoy healthy offerings such as an Organic Fruits Yu Sheng or simply relish in a Vegetarian Pen Cai offering. With a marvelous view to complete the experience, this could probably be the next place to being that business client you always wanted to impress with some good food and scenery.

The Marina Mandarin Signature Organic Fruits Yu Sheng is the restaurant’s highlight this year. Made with a spread of mango, strawberry, rock melon, papaya and kiwi in addition to the regular spread of shredded vegetables and salmon, this Yu Sheng is a spritely and light hearted serve from start till end.

Something to look out for is the Steamed Crystal Dumpling with Black Truffle and mushroom. The scent of truffle is mild, playing a complement to the textured mushroom crunch within. Great when hot.

The Deep Fried Bean Curd Skin Roll filled with Prawn is great for the savory crunch on the outside and the sweet meat within. A little oily, great when you are hungry, and best for dim sum.

My favourite dim sum goes to the Steamed Rice Roll filled with Prawn wrapped with Golden String.  Chee Cheong funn just got better with the crispy stuffing. Served aside with a premium slightly sweet soy sauce dipping to bring out the overall flavour, this dim sum is not to be missed!

The vegetarian pen cai is a first in many ways for me. Filled with vegetarian abalone. Bamboo pith, bean curd skin, mushrooms and a base full of radish in a braising sauce, I thought this was really heavy through and through. Great for those who love radish or would want a vegetarian option. For me, I prefer a regular pot anyday!

The fried multigrain rice with diced chicken was a unique touch to what would be the traditional line up of new year dishes. Following along the healthy theme, this dish is great for those seeking something new!

From the dishes I tried, I would say that Peach Blossoms serves up an interesting menu that is apart from the regular standard. While most restaurant would focus on good ol hearty dishes, the contemporary healthy line up infused into traditional offerings make this menu a touch different and perhaps a talking point. For those seeking a place to have that reunion lunch, Peach blossoms might be the choice just for you.

Thank you Marina Mandarin for the invitation
