Cze Char Delivery enterprise Shi Fu Ge has brought back its Crab in da Bag Imperial Pot for delivery to all its diners islandwide. In addition to either spicy or the non-spicy options, diners will now be able to choose the newly introduced Salted Egg Yolk flavour. With a promotional price of $79.90 (U.P $88.80), the Salted Egg Yolk Crab in da Bag plays on the Singaporean penchant for all things salted egg yolk coupled with the sweet savouriness of fresh seafood all simmered in a single bag.
The dish was well wrapped on arrival, with multiple layers of wrap, aluminium foil and then encased in a huge cardboard box. As I unwrapped the package, the distinct scent of salted egg yolk was unmistakable, immediately whetting my appetite further.
I was impressed by the generous serving of crabs, clams and prawns sitting on a bed of potatoes and corn. And though the serving does look messy, it was probably just as inviting for one to dig straight in. The seafood selection was decently fresh and sweet, and the potatoes hearty to the bite. The salted egg yolk sauce, a pale yellow and though not exceptionally flavourful or fragrant at first, does grow on you. What I enjoyed most was how the juices from the seafood and corn melded into a single concoction, giving that sweet essence within. While it can be enjoyed with a side of white rice, I would gather that the portion is good enough on its own. Best enjoyed by 2-3 persons and when served hot. Mine was a little lukewarm on arrival (to be expected of a delivery service), so its flavour was a touch lacklustre. Still, one more way to enjoy a medley of seafood in a single sitting.
