Todai’s Seafood Counter. This is not my first time to Todai, and I’ve always been pleased by the selection of sushi (especially if you are a sushi fan) that are a departure from the traditional. Be brave for fusion creations and the occasional fiery satisfaction. However, the sashimi section was a little lacklustre for the night. In addition to the spread of sushi and seafood, be sated with a collection of tempura dishes, grilled meats, local cuisine, udon, korean delicacies, pizza and pasta. It definitely has been a long time since my last visit to Todai, and I used to remember it being slightly more enchanting.
A favourite among guests, these chilled snow crab legs are quickly cleared and replenished and are available for dinners.
It was my first time seeing steamed Red Crab legs as any crabs of this nature will usually be served chilled in Singapore. A first for me, and not too bad I might add. I hear it’s more commonly served steamed back in Japan.
Still, this festive season, look forward to their Roast Turkey served alongside with cranberry sauce. I must admit that the chefs did an excellent job with this portion served up. It was beautifully golden brown, with the meat so tender and juicy. The cranberry sauce was also chunky, a little tart and not overwhelming sweet. Excellent. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try the Suckling Pig that will be served up during the Christmas specials.
On top of the snow crab selection, guests will be served up an endless flow of Alaskan King Crab Leg during the Christmas special. These were remarkably juicy, meaty and brimming with flavour. Excellent.
Freshly shucked oysters will also be available.
As I was keen to discover how steamed crabs would taste like, the kitchen very kindly did up a serving using the King Crab legs. I’m not too sure if this will be served up during the Christmas special, but if you do, go for it. It definitely was my favourite when compared against the chilled variant.
The Potato Broccoli Christmas Cake was a unique creation from the kitchen. Cute. And yes, it is edible.
The Christmas Buffet spread will be available on the 24th and 25th of December 2014, and the lineup will feature specials in addition to the regular buffet spread. While the buffet is to me a glimpse of what it could be, I was still decently sated by the selection, and will say that guests looking forward to a good variety (especially the snow crab or king crab legs) will find this buffet particularly enjoyable.
