At the Park Hotel Group this year, a dash of luxury and novelty is added to the range of mooncakes prepared for the Mid-Autumn Festival. From the purple-red rich premium packaging to the snowskin mooncakes adorned with a layer of sparkling edible glitter, these are mooncakes that aim to leave a visual impact of class and majesty. The limited edition Imperial Mid-Autumn Treasures Gift Set ($128) pairs four baked Sparkling Gold Honey White Lotus Seed Paste with Bird’s Nest, Walnuts & Cranberries together with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot Champagne. It comes presented in royal purple fabric embroidered with gold peonies.

New this year and in addition to the hotel group’s signature Golden Yam Mooncake, is the Golden Pumpkin with Mung Beans and Single Yolk. Each piece is deep fried to a golden, flaky crisp that encases a velvety pumpkin and mung bean paste around a salted egg yolk core.  4 pieces for $68.

The snowskin mooncakes represent the gems in the collection. With the varied hues symbolizing pearl, jade, gold and yellow topaz, each piece is both a feast for the eyes and the tastebuds. The Imperial Jade & Coconut Truffle in Snowskin (Jade Green) is a combination of fragrant pandan, aromatic coconut and a creamy chocolate centre. The Golden Cognac Truffle in Snowskin (Gold)  gives a tinge of alcoholic richness in the lineup. The Pearly Lychee & Lychee in Snowskin is for me the most unique of the lot as it carries a refreshing fruity sweetness that is a creative endeavour from the deeper, velvety creaminess.  The Royal Topaz with Nougat & Chocolate Pops in Snowskin represents the hotel’s playful side in incorporating ingredients that go beyond the conventional. A box of assorted snowskin mooncakes is priced at $60 for 8 pieces, while a box of 8 in each variant goes for $58.
