A Sunday Garden Party by the Sea at Barnacles, Shangri-La Rasa Sentosa!

barnaclesshangrila

To put resorts and feasts in perspective, Barnacles at the Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort and Spa, promises a spectacular array of items made with quality and tender care fresh from the kitchen. Every Sunday, the restaurant features the Sunday Garden Party by the Sea from noon to 3pm. With the restaurant located right next to the edge of sea, this is one place that has good food with a grand view. The best part, one child under the age of 12 can dine for free with every paying adult, and all guests are invited after lunch to relax at the resort’s swimming pool, children’s slides and splash pad. Talk about a Sunday adventure, this has to be it!

Making my way from Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort to Barnacles. I can almost imagine myself transported to another land, a fantasy of sorts.

And here we are! At Barnacles!

Ready?

The centrepiece of the buffet is the multi-tiered seafood tower of fresh prawns, Alaskan King Crab legs and lobsters. Truly a sight to behold, this is tempting for anyone to take a piece, or two, or three.

IMG_0366

As the restaurant has outdoor seating spaces, I thought it was ideal to enjoy the King Crab legs overlooking the sea. Ahhhhh.

IMG_0355

Lobsters?

IMG_0357

The lobsters went very well with Chef de Cuisine Joanne’s special Mango chutney. With a slight sweet tangy accompanied by a pleasant touch of spices, the fruity flavours complemented the sea savouriness of the hardy crustacean.

IMG_0229

Done and ready for more? Tuck in to the deep sea oyster flown specially from the French coast.

IMG_0336

And if you feel like it, call for a glass of wine to enjoy the oysters in a single platter. Salty, slightly creamy with the infusion of sweetness, the oysters are a nice match with any light white wine to capture in the sea flavours.

IMG_0244

For a spread of amuse bouche and chilled starters, look out for items like Goose Liver with Figs, Quail egg with Caviar and the Tuna Tataki with Asparagus.

A garden party by the sea is probably incomplete without any live grill. Enjoy freshly grilled lamb, chicken, sausages, corn, and prawns.

Take a step further down the spread and you will find Roast Chicken, Lamb Rack, and Beef. Talk about a spread that goes beyond simply seafood.

IMG_0252

My only wish was for the lamb rack to be cooked medium done though. Didn’t entirely appreciate the flavour.

For that Sunday, the live station featured a selection freshly prepared Risottos. I had mine made with mushrooms, and it was luxurious for all its good creaminess and earthy flavours.

Lychee cooler to wash it all down?

Wedges

The notable thing about the Sunday Garden Party by the Sea is that quality is pretty much the main standard here. Although the variety of dishes is not excessively extensive, one can be assured on the intricate detail and care that goes into each dish.

IMG_0264

If available, do remember to go for the pan seared Hokkaido Scallops wrapped in bacon.

IMG_0296

Sweet, meaty and crisp, this was very well received. Scallops and bacon seem like an excellent combination all the time, no?

Time for desserts! The buffet is also proud to have up to 12 different types of gourmet cheeses for the avid cheese lover. I was literally in heaven when I saw the selection.

IMG_0216

And don’t mind me fawning over the selection. I just had to enjoy them all.

And to go beyond the savoury after meal delights, there is always the sweet delicacies to choose from. I’ll post the pictures and let your appetite wander while looking at each dish.

Quite a number of guests at the table enjoyed the Apple pie. I found it thick and comforting, with the sweetness of apple mild and enjoyable with the crisp crust.

The buffet also comes complete with a Children’s section where hot dogs, nuggets, and spaghetti are available. Desserts for kids include gummy bears and sticky sweet treats.

And something for the kids as well! They were super attracted to the clown who kept giving them balloon sculptures, finished with a magic show.

The Sunday Garden Party by the Sea is one buffet experience that is an entire package. From quality food, a lovely seafront ambience, live performances, and after meal relaxation by the pool, this is specially for those looking for a quick getaway every Sunday in a world all on their own. I enjoyed most of the dishes from the buffet line, and memorable items include the excellent grilled sausages, appetizers, desserts and soups. If you are one for seafood, this is a place to tuck in and enjoy the sweet savoury meats by the sea. An experience to remember! And before I forget, I must add that this is a perfect place for a wedding party.

Thank you Shangri-La for the invitation
