As a Northerner in Singapore, I have always found the food places in the East to be varied, attractive and sometimes just outright innovative. Yet, because of demands from such a variety, new places are always coming and going to tease the palates of guests. One relatively newcomer on the scene is Pasta Vista located just across I12 Katong. The nondescript cafe and bar feature a mix of soups, salads, snacks and desserts around an Italian and fusion theme and is great for those around the area seeking something new to try.
Start off with items such as the Cheesy Bolognese Fries ($7.50+) for a good serving of lattice fries topped with nacho cheese and a heavy beef bolognese sauce. The golden hues of viscous cheese and brownish red beef sauce is just full fledged visual appeal.Definitely a welcomed and appetizing starter, albeit a little filling if not shared amongst a crowd.
For a hearty starter, the Cream of Mushroom ($5+) is one option to go for. The soup is chunky and thick with a light glaze of truffle oil to fluff up the flavour. Decent, though the garlic toast could have been crispier and stronger in garlic touches.
One of the restaurant’s recommendation is the Baby Crayfish Bucatini ($12.90+). Servings of hollowed out spaghetti is steeped in a creamy base made of baby crayfish and scented with spice. Savoury sweet, with a mild hotness throughout, the pasta is nicely constrated with a velvety yolk center and bursts of flying fish roe by the side. Another alternative is the Spicy Yuzu Spaghetti ($11.90+). Great for those seeking a slightly mellow yet equally spicy flavour. The yuzu is distinct though I found it a little out of the ordinary in a pasta dish.
The Pan-Fried Fish with Yuzu Buerre Blanc ($14.90+) is an option for those seeking an almost carb free diet. Though I would go for the pasta dishes any day.
The Chocolate Melted Cake ($7.90) is a quaint way to end the meal. Warm, thick, with a molten chocolate center, the cake comes served with a side of ice cream to balance out the flavour.
Hazel-Choco Milkshake and Lychee Freeze (Highly recommend the milkshake)
Pasta Vista is the homely, simple family inspired cafe that seeks to serve good ol’ pasta dishes with that exotic touch. The flavours are generally strong and welcoming with a potential for more exciting touches given time and a little more experimentation. Great for those who are in the Katong area looking for an unusual pasta alternative that is kept firm in some traditionals for a more memorable touch.
Thank you Pasta Vista for the invitation
