SPRUCE, from its famed location at Tanglin has now expanded to its second outlet at the old Bukit Timah Fire Station. Away from the the city centre, and near the Bukit Batok Nature Park, SPRUCE aims to bring the chillax environment to this exclusive location. With doors already wide open to the public, teasing everyone with touches of its tapas, brunch, dinner and a whole spread of drinks, this is one location great to past the night in.
The fire station along Upper Bukit Timah at Number 260 was built way back in 1956. Through touch ups and a refurbishment of the place, the former fire station now houses SPRUCE and an assortment of commercial entities. Most distinct about the place each time I go past it would be its giant bright red doors simply capturing your attention.
SPRUCE is stationed in the main annex of the compound, and it has a mix of both indoor and alfresco dining options. Sitting outside in the cool night enjoying a couple of drinks with friends would be ideal, although I think that its close proximity to the cars might be a little smoggy.
Inside, the restaurant is minimally decorated with simple ambient lighting to accompany the dining experience.
Cornering the wine fridges
SPRUCE@Firestation will feature a space for live band performances. While I did enjoy the music, the layout of the fire station made dinner a strong case for echoes. I had to raise my voice occasionally to converse over drinks, not to say the vibrant conversations from the other tables helped.

I really must give my compliments to Executive Chef Patrick Lau and his team for coming up with an excellent rendition of Creme Brulee. Crisp top, with a velvety smooth custard that easily runs with the break from a spoon, this is one dessert that made it on my wish list if I am returning back to SPRUCE!
SPRUCE@Firestation might be a little out of the way, but I can totally imagine the sun slowing setting with drinks by the side, relaxing as the darkness is welcomed for its cooling slumber.
