The Square Restaurant at Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay has refreshed its buffet line up! Built around the theme of Flavours of the World with a Local Twist, guests can expect an international spread with local favourites where F&B Director Jean-Philippe Couturier plans to tell global stories through food. With its location at one of Singapore’s chill out places, The Square Restaurant is one place where that buffet dinner can begin before partying on throughout the night!
A modest and select line up of delectable goodies await.
When I first stepped into the restaurant, the Parma ham was simply hard not to notice. It looked excellent on the carving board, and it just made me want to take slices of it to start with. And if you are being creative, grab some of the cut sweet fruits (honeydew or rockmelon if you are lucky) and pair that up with the salty savoury pieces of porcine.
To start off the buffet, you could choose from the variety of salads available, or dish out your own creation. And if you venture further down the row, you might be able to grab some Black Pepper Crab along the way.
Ye Favourite Pasta Salad
A selection of sashimi, sushi, fresh seafood of Oysters, Mussels and Prawns are up for grabs. It would have been nice to see a larger spread though, with more variety to dazzle my eyes.
Still, I enjoyed the fresh oysters. Squeezing some lemon juice here, there and then dabbing tobasco all over!
Hot Mains to tuck in to !
A particular main which I loved was this dish of Braised Beef Balls. Juicy, and well soaked in all the meaty goodness, each serving was a marvellous combination of hearty savouriness tinged with a slight sweet lasting flavour.
One of the highlights at The Square Restaurant is the a la minute Risotto Counter. Freshly prepared with a good dose of herbs, sauces and then rolled all around in that huge barrel of cheese, the Risotto is one fine creation of the chef!
The dish was specially crafted that night with some suggested parma ham to go along the sides. But for the risotto, I found it extremely creamy and well seasoned, making this a cheese lovers delight. Want more cheese? Sprinkle more! And if you are feeling adventurous, ask the chef if he can prepare a laksa infused creation. You might enjoy that tinge of spices hinting out at you.
Behold the grilled section!
The Grilled Selections of Satay, Sausages, Wings and Otah were quite limited to an assortment of pieces. It is ok if you desire to have some Barbecue on your plate, but other than that I would save more space for another serving of Risotto and cheese!
Local Favourites counter of DIY Laksa and Kway Teow
Laksa! More for the tourists with a slightly toned down version.
Ahh, cheeses. How can a buffet not have cheeses. Perhaps my favourite station, oh wait no, Risotto was my favourite station.
The Dessert selection is perhaps one of the strongest points in The Square Restaurant. For the young at heart, there is a dedicated Chocolate Fountain station, and if you are one to really go for durians, there is an excellent Durian Pengat selection available. It’s aromatic with a sweet pungency and a creaminess that bodes of fresh durian well blended with its slightly fibres and all!
Light, tangy sweet Raspberry Mousse Cake
French Pastries to go along with Tea
And yes, if its local favourites, there has to be an Ice Kachang and Chendol counter.
Jin Hui and Me
The outdoor seating veranda of The Square Restaurant. Very Scenic might I add!
The selection of dishes at The Square Restaurant though not extremely extensive, it has its focus on providing quality ingredients in the dishes that go out. I was impressed by the Risotto, and the choice of very heart warming and filling dishes made available. For its price range, it is a decent selection of niche dishes. While its diversity is just a flavour of what is really a global buffet, the restaurant does make for a good dinner for family and friends to head to and chill out perhaps after a long day at work. And if you go during the afternoon where the weather is slightly cooling, you might even want to sit outside and enjoy that dish of refreshing parma ham with honeydew, or dragonfruit.
Thank You Novotel for the invitation.
